HV SWITCHBOARD REPLACEMENT
BHP MINING AREA C (MAC)
MINING & RESOURCES - CONSTRUCTION & PROJECT DELIVERY
CHALLENGE
At BHP's Mining Area C (MAC), three aging HV switchboards - at end of life - needed removal and replacement. The works had to be completed during a critical 3-week shutdown, requiring robust supervision across dayshift and nightshift, and careful management of high-voltage isolations, structural requirements, and strict shutdown constraints.
SOLUTION
Eminence Energy supported a major electrical contractor by providing comprehensive supervisory coverage throughout the shutdown period. Our scope included removal of the old switchboards, floor strengthening works to support the new switchgear, and the installation of replacement HV switchboards. We also managed to commissioning activities and plant ramp-up to ensure safe, compliant energisation and seamless return to operation.
RESULTS
The replacement was completed successfully within the shutdown window, with the new HV switchboards installed, commissioned and handed over on schedule. The upgrade restored reliable HV infrastructure for the site, demonstrating Eminence Energy's capacity to deliver critical, high-voltage projects under demanding shutdown conditions - minimising downtime and ensuring a safe, compliant outcome.
